Both the nationalist and liberal paradigms employed respectively by the Sinhala Buddhist Sangha and the Christian churches have failed to solve the ethnic, as well as Buddhist-Christian tensions, in Sri Lanka. This reflects on the moral failure of Asian Buddhism and Western Christianity.
This book explores how the two religious traditions could contribute to an alternative paradigm for peace among diverse groups by transcending the liberal and nationalist models. This alternative paradigm is informed by the peace movement in Vietnam, led by Thich Nhat Hanh, and civil rights and peace movement in America, led by Martin Luther King Jr.
